On Friday 19 April, Iain Stewart MP visited Bletchley Landfill Site to meet with the site management team, FCC.
Having received correspondence from local constituents, Iain was keen to highlight their issues around the odours being emitted from the landfill site to nearby neighbourhoods and understand the work being done by FCC to limit this from happening.
Iain heard how some factors are out of FCC's control such as the wind direction and certain waste being particularly smelly. Also, the waste being disposed of at Bletchley Landfill Site is primarily trade and commercial waste.
Iain was shown the various measures that are in place to limit odour being released from the site and the infrastructure in place to identify when and where an odour is emitted.
This includes, but is not limited to, receptor points across the site and in nearby neighbourhoods to detect when odours are emitted, an employed Environment Technician who responds to all odour complaints and patrols the landfill to regularly check, and all waste arriving at the site being compacted regularly and the waste being enclosed at the end of each working day.
Regardless, FCC have a range of legal requirements that are set by the Environmental Agency and failure to comply with the Environmental Agency will result in their permit being removed.
Iain welcomed the opportunity to have a tour of the landfill site and left feeling reassured that FCC are doing plenty of work to limit the amount of odours being emitted from the landfill.
If you have any issues or concerns, please do get in touch with my office and we would be happy to communicate with FCC & Bletchley Landfill Site to highlight your points.
